The Free Black Women's Library is a social art project that features a collection of over four thousand books by Black women, literary workshops, film screenings, readings, performances and radical conversations. The project also features a Reading Club and a mutual aid initiative for Black single mothers who are artists, writers, community organizers and cultural workers. The mission and purpose of the library is to center and celebrate the creative and intellectual labor of Black women writers from all over the world. The library is grounded in Black Feminist Praxis, radical imagination, collective care and community building. It is anti capitalist, anti racist and anti sexist. Our events are always free, inclusive and accessible. We aim to provide a space that both liberating and nurturing to our community. All ages, races and genders are welcome to join us. In the summer of 2022 we will TFBWL Reading Room, which will serve as a creative co working space and literary hub for the people of Bedford Stuyvesant.
