Soup & Sound 2021 presents new work by ten artists/ensembles in the form of video, both online and at live, pandemic-safe events in nine Brooklyn neighborhoods. Oliver Lake & the Dance Clarinets big band directed by J. D. Parran Amirtha Kidambi (composer/vocalist) Sam Newsome (soprano saxophonist) James Brandon Lewis (tenor saxophonist) Melanie Dyer (composer/violist) Ras Moshe Burnett (multi-instrumentalist/historian) Sara Schoenbeck (bassoonist) Lamerol Gatewood (painter) Ingrid Laubrock (composer/saxophonist) MAKU Soundsystem (band with Colombian roots) The videos will consist of the artists’ creative work and interviews. They will be presented in the Soup & Sound Online series and in intimate, pandemic-safe settings in community gardens and other locations around Brooklyn. Exact locations and dates for the live events will be announced locally, close to the time of the presentations. Neighborhoods include in PLG, Sunset Park, Red Hook, Midwood, Flatlands, Bed-Stuy, Boerum Hill, Clinton Hill, and East New York. The videos will be viewable globally at www.soupandsound.org or by searching “Soup & Sound Online” on vimeo. A dozen videos from our BAC supported 2020 series are already there for viewing now.
