The Rhythm Method will commission a new work by legendary composer-performer Roscoe Mitchell, to be premiered in Fall 2021 in the quartet's home borough of Brooklyn. The new 15-20 minute work will form part of Mitchell's "Card Catalog" series, in which each player has a set of six cards accompanying the piece as a scored improvisation. The quartet will frame this work's premiere with other pieces incorporating improvisation and indeterminacy, as well as a public workshop on open notation.
