For most of us, our trash consciousness is limited to putting a plastic bottle in the recycling bin. We know little about the impact of our “throw-out” culture and the workers who face more danger than firefighters and police officers. CITY OF TRASH is a theatrical experience for young audiences that makes visible the invisible work of sanitation, honoring sanitation professionals to keep society healthy and safe. The experience will help young people expand their trash consciousness by exploring the benefits and dangers of waste management; the cultural secrets trash reveals; and the lacking environmental justice of sanitation.
