Lineage is a multi-platform storytelling project that grew out of the practice of conceptual artist Shani Jamila. She makes work in response to family records meticulously researched by her genealogist grandmother. Her collages and abstract pointillist paintings explore ancestry, identity, and the importance of place. On Lineage, Shani curates and hosts intimate, in-depth conversations with fellow contemporary socially engaged artists from the African diaspora about these same themes. Together, they help tell the story of what it means to be Black and creating futures in 21st century America.
