The Forest--a new, multi-cultural, multi-generational, collective percussion quintet consisting of Gustavo Aguilar, Leah Bowden, Andrew Drury, Lesley Mok, and Michael Wimberly—will perform original music at Roulette, joined by special guest Warren Smith, lead participatory community jams, and present video online and outdoors throughout 2022. Compositions include Drury’s tribute to his mentor, (D)ruminations for Edward Blackwell, which explores music from the classic Don Cherry/Ed Blackwell Mu recordings, and Warren Smith’s Elements of a Storm which was composed for M’Boom 50 years ago. The Forest will also lead two community percussion jams in Brooklyn parks and produce videos of their work that will be shown online and in sidewalk pop-up screenings with hot drinks in November and December.
