Written, directed and choreographed by Katherine Maxwell, ‘a sigh of origin’ is a dance movie featuring nine dancers representing a single individual and the various lives lost and found throughout a lifetime: processes of shedding and transforming. Influenced by time spent with Maxwell’s 90-year old grandmother who suffers from dementia, ‘a sigh of origin’ will convey how change in a person over a lifetime affects how one relates to the world around them. The cast of dancers made up of men, women, and non-binary individuals from a range of cultural backgrounds, will represent how a person evolves as an effect of pivotal moments. ‘a sigh of origin’ aims to be a work that people can relate to individually and collectively, due in part to the unprecedented times we have faced. With an anticipated premiere in Fall 2022, this 30-minute dance featurette aims to amplify Hivewild’s vision for movement-based artworks to act as a conduit for the creation of more united communities.
