MBDance, led by Maria Bauman, is partnering with Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX) to create, host and present QTPOC Sankofa Dreaming which is a weekend festival of four workshops and a performance based on themes from MBDance’s/Maria’s Desire: A Sankofa Dream. Maria developed Desire: A Sankofa Dream, a site-responsive performance ritual centering Black queer agency, at BAX in 2017-18 when she was an Artist in Residence there. She has created QTPOC Sankofa Dreaming, a weekend festival intensive for 10-15 Black queer and/or transgender Brooklynites and other artists of color to help build community with each other, get a sense of their own power through performance practice workshops, and see themselves centered in performance and in curricula that lifts up the histories of queer makers of color.
