One Breath Rising has been presenting jazz and poetry events in Brooklyn or online since 2015. We are committed to supporting world class artistry in an intimate setting, and to providing opportunities for artists from diverse cultures - inspired by the African American traditions of improvisation and storytelling - to present, collaborate, and document their work. We are thrilled to present 3 live events in Brooklyn this year in addition to our monthly on-line programming. These will include musical performances by small jazz ensembles led by Brooklyn artists Ahmed Abdullah and Jay Rodriguez, and will introduce Brooklyn audiences to the Makanda Project big band. In conjunction, we will feature performances by Brooklyn poets Robert Gibbons, Monique Ngozi Nri, and others to be announced. We will also be celebrating the release of our upcoming book, At the Crossroad: The One Breath Rising Anthology of Poetry and Prose.
