POWER UP is an annual free workshops program about art and technology specifically conceived for teens and young adults, based on the critical belief that understanding technology equals the power to determine our future. POWER UP is an opportunity to explore what it means to live in this increasingly digital world while simultaneously honing community, creativity, and literacy. The main goals of POWER UP are that participants will leave the program with exposure to art & technology spaces and as a start of a community of young creatives who want to use technology to build a better world. In the long-term, this is aligned with POWRPLNT founders' wish to expand and create a system from Brooklyn for engaging youth where the WiFi signal is strong, and the desire to create is stronger. POWRPLNT's method is to teach technological skills by advertising the outcome. Teens are motivated to participate because there is a tangible goal. By providing them with the resources to learn new digital languages, we encourage conversation and inspire cultural awareness and engagement. With these newly learned languages, teens of underrepresented communities are given a voice.
