QT Art Camp
QT Art Camp is an emerging organization fiscally sponsored by the Brooklyn Arts Council. QT's mission is to build a hub for creative exploration and the development of artistic skills for trans and queer youth. Our programming fosters reassurance and furnishes resources for mindful artistic engagement. We strive to create inclusive communities for teens embarking on self-discovery through artistic practice. Jesse Pallotta and Angel Glasby, two trans Brooklyn based artists, co-founded the project during the sweeping wave of anti-trans legislation targeting trans youth. We are grateful for the support of a Brooklyn Arts Fund grant, which we are using to fund a multi-day pilot workshop series Summer 2022. We will be teaching youth skills to transcribe their stories through art, to create emotional and physical space for themselves, and to express their vulnerability and confidence. By combining performing arts workshops with visual arts we will also help youth build their own multi-disciplinary modes of expression. Our workshop series will end with a free showcase open to family and friends. This work couldn't be more urgent: trans and queer self-expression and community change and save lives. In a time where our bodies and spirits are under scrutiny and attack, sharing the power of art with trans and queer youth is more essential than ever.
