"Creating in Sankofa"
Ramona Candy is a motivational artist, curator, arts administrator, accidental historian, occasional blogger and a dancer. Drawing from her Caribbean heritage, growing up in Brooklyn and her dance career, her works on canvas, are mostly inspired by Sankofa (which means “to go back and retrieve”). Whether it’s personal memory or part of a collective experience, Ramona’s work radiates with nostalgia, history, community and cultural appreciation. In her most recent project, a series of collaged portraits (Our History, Our Pride), she identifies figures in Black history and gives them voice and presence through exhibition and workshop.
