Artshack Brooklyn will host a series of free Community Clay Days, welcoming Bed-Stuy community members to come together, work with clay, and learn from the artists-in-residence featured in the Artshack Gallery. During each 2.5-hour event (held on Saturday mornings at Artshack), participants will be given a supply of clay and access to tools and are invited to roll, pinch, hand form, and shape on the wheel as they like. All attendees are invited to fire and glaze a piece for free. The Community Clay Days feature both unstructured time, encouraging a spirit of play and experimentation, as well as a workshop led by an artist-in-residence, focused on a specific technique in ceramic arts. Each Community Clay Day offers an inter-generational approach, where novices work alongside artists, allowing neighbors, across race, class, age, and ability, to come together to create and experience art and enjoy the healing powers of clay.
