Brooklyn FAM
"Talk to Me: Brooklyn FAM in the Floss" is a free, family-friendly community arts event featuring performances and workshops with Caribbean, Arab, and East Asian American artists across dance, contemporary and folk music, and hip hop. Aligned with Brooklyn FAM’s 2023 programming theme of “multi-sensory storytelling for transformative healing,” this outdoor summer mini-festival will also feature culturally rich art-making activities and an open mic.
Join us on Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Prospect Park Boathouse (rain or shine) for Brooklyn FAM 2023, our 3rd annual, family-friendly arts and music festival. This year's free event highlights voices from the Jewish, Arab, and West African communities across folkloric dance, dance-theater, puppet theater, music, an innovative participatory public art project led by Brooklyn-based textile artists, and a storytelling lab featuring the senses of taste, smell, and touch at experiential stations. The festival is the culminating event of Brooklyn FAM's programming year on the theme of "multi-sensory storytelling for transformative healing." At the festival, we will unveil the large community quilt composed by Williamsburg-based master quilter Sylvia Hernandez from the individual quilt squares created this spring and summer by community members at our “Patchwork Quilt” neighborhood event series. Come explore the rich stories that have shaped us and the powerful ways that sharing our stories heals us as individuals and as a community.
