Irene Koloseus | Sound Bridges
Formed in 2019, Sound Bridges is a New York-based performance group with a mission to explore world music and dance in order to create new works fusing several genres: West African, jazz, flamenco and tap. While staying true to their roots, the collective is interested in constructing new rhythmic conversations. They present all original compositions drawn from African and jazz influences featuring the ancient sounds of the balafon, a wooden xylophone central to the Mande music traditions of West Africa. The multi-cultural group Sound Bridges fuses elements from various dance forms and cultures, emphasizing musicality, vulnerability, and authenticity. Percussive dance, polyrhythms, West African dance movements, improvisation, and the passionate grace of flamenco dance are the components that characterize their choreography. Sound Bridges strives to connect audiences to the unifying power musicians and dancers can create. The Project “Brooklyn Senior Center Concert Series 2023” offers free concerts in Adult Centers in several Brooklyn neighborhoods.
