Earth Mother/Mother Earth is a collaboration between artist, Iviva Olenick and Brooklyn-based non-profit, ART YARD BKLYN (AYB) to curate and present to the Brooklyn public hands-on, studio art workshops celebrating women and the earth. Workshops are organized by AYB’s executive team, Meridith McNeal and Dennis Buonagura, and led by a core group of Teaching Artists as part of Advanced Studio sessions, open to the public for artists of all experience levels ages 11 through senior adults. Workshops take place on Zoom and in person in BWAC’s Red Hook studios. Each session introduces new hands-on processes (weaving with paper, fabric, and recycled materials; natural dyeing; embroidery and crochet; printmaking and performance; paper sculpture; book arts), and shares inspiration images from contemporary art and/or art history. Workshops culminate in an exhibition of selected works.
