My Brooklyn, My Arts, My Voice, is a multi-discipline, multi-dimensional community arts and advocacy project. Youth ages 9-21 will be trained by teaching artists to utilize their voice and feelings to create movement & performances. Youth will participate in weekly cultural movement classes and a summer Social Justice and Dance intensive where professional artists will mentor, train and empowering youths to speak out about Justice and Equity through cultural dance performances. Our goal is to increase youth voice, youth empowerment, cultural arts education and community development. During the summer intensive the youth and professional artists will create a dance and Social Justice performance which will be performed at various locations throughout our Brooklyn community. My Brooklyn, My Arts, My Voice, will give a voice to youth who often feel silenced and must live through many injustices and inequality issues on a daily basis. These youths will not only research issues in their community but they will also share their solutions through the universal medium of "the arts".
