Generation of Love is a public art project composed by a multigenerational cast of activists, educators, community members, and formerly incarcerated individuals that takes a critical look at the faults in New York’s criminal justice system and advocates for alternatives to incarceration. The performance creates intimate spaces for dialogue through song, dance and spoken word and invites the audience to join in its co-creation. This project is done in collaboration with the Survivors Justice Project, a collective of activists, lawyers, social workers, students, and researchers – many of whom are survivors of domestic violence and long-term incarceration – who fight for decarceration through the New York Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act.
