The Women of African Descent Film Festival is one of the longstanding and most successful programs of The Brooklyn Chapter of The Links, Inc. Our mission is to showcase films that are centered on the theme of Linkages: Women, Their Families, Neighborhoods, and the Global Community. The primary goals for the WADFF are: 1) preserving the legacy of people of African descent through film by supporting female filmmakers who tell our stories with integrity, sensitivity, and vision 2) featuring films written, produced, and/or directed by women of African descent to provide a platform for their work that includes exposure to diverse audiences and opportunities for publicity and professional development 3) providing a rich social and cultural experience for the Brooklyn community that brings people together in a positive way 4) exposing youth to established and emerging artists as a way to stimulate their interest and foster involvement in creating stories that positively reflect the Black experience and 5) uplifting our stories and educating the broader community about issues, concerns and experiences of people of African descent. The festival will be held June 9th and 10th at The Billie Holiday Theatre at Restoration Plaza.
