"Fabric of Life" Community Mural Project
I will create a community-involved mural in Flatbush, Brooklyn that celebrates diversity of the the city and the neighborhood through folk arts of different cultures and ancestries (Native American, European, African, Asian, Middle Eastern, etc..) Folk arts such as textiles and embroidery have been symbols of identity and creativity of many different cultures. The mural will send a vibrant message of cultural and ethnic diversity that is important and unique to New York City and the neighborhood. It will remind the public about historical and cultural significance of folk art and equity of different ancestries. The aim of the mural is to beautify the neighborhood and give a sense pride and unity to the local community.
