“Into the Garden” is Freelance Nun’s exploration and public performance of musical works inspired by the music and texts of two pre-eminent 12th-century German nuns, Hildegard von Bingen and Herrad of Hohenburg. Composed by members of the ensemble for amplified modern and medieval instruments, “Into the Garden” forms a bridge between the past and present, allowing us to marvel at the brilliance of these two women and take hope that we, too, will continue to push past barriers that still exist for female-identifying people in 2024.
