The Learning Ring / A Tree’s Standing: a series of public art interventions designed to encourage a deeper understanding of the natural world that surrounds us This project will be an opportunity to instill a deeper respect for nature and connect our community through art. We will explore sustainability and equitable access to trees as a way to improve health, water quality, and land use. Park-goers will learn more about the natural surroundings that the park offers, and the benefits, both emotionally and physically, of spending time in nature. They will also learn how the park mitigates the adverse effects of climate change, the science of trees and how they improve our health and the planet, the science of the animal species that live in the park, and how to observe and care for them. The Learning Ring/ A Tree’s Standing will have three components to provide people with an opportunity to discover more about their local park and each other and participate in collaborative events. This will include 1) a memorial mural, 2) a series of art workshops/discovery walks with the public, and 3) a community planting of an oak seedling near one of the lost tree sites.
