"Year of the Dragon - Chinese Paper Cutting Art Workshop at Mapleton Library," will be offered teach for the Brooklyn residents at all age at Brooklyn Public Library, Mapleton Branch during the summer of 2024. In ten class series, Master Lu will demonstrate paper cutting, an ancient Chinese art form dating from the Han Dynasty, in this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basic shape of flowers, animals, and lucky word signs by using paper and scissors. This project will give the artist MingLinag and Sharlene the opportunities to improve their creative artistic ability to further better serving the Brooklyn Community especially to the younger and older adults of immigrant families. The artist’s goals are to help everyone in the workshop to create the artwork free of limitations and able to express themselves thorough their work, enjoy the art creations by themselves, and live with healthier body and richer their spiritual life in the future. Cultural programs allow you to feel closer with someone, speak your hometown language, and have that warm feeling just like being back home again. We need these cultural programs, especially for us to create the peace and harmonies in our community now.
