Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation’s (NEBHDCo) mission since its founding in 1985 is the preservation, development and management of affordable housing and homeownership opportunities; community and economic development initiatives and human services that affect social change in central Brooklyn. NEBHDCo Community Programs Emergency Food Program offers shelf-stable goods and fresh produce. To provide community services that are free of cost, educational and geared towards the enhancement of the community itself i.e. professional development classes, beautification of the passive garden, dance classes, yoga classes etc. Community Programs and initiatives are currently focused in two areas: promoting healthy food and living, providing tenant and community support. Since the mid 1990’s and 2000’s, NEBHDCo incorporated murals on several residential buildings that it developed to foster cultural identity and place; NEBHDCo incorporated murals on several residential buildings that it developed. NEBHDCo also introduced Jazz sessions through its “Music in the Park'' series in Bed-Stuy. These series provided a historical perspective and impact of jazz in the black community with support from the Brooklyn Art Council.
