The NYC queer jam is an explicitly queer space for embodiment and community building through movement improvisation. The practice is based in Contact Improvisation, in conjunction with other movement forms and somatic and creative modalities that people bring to the room. Through presence, creative expression, and play, we practice to gain more awareness of ourselves, consensual relationships with self and others, and to allow space for our imaginations to dream and play. We research the queerness of CI through the form itself, and by challenging what is known about the form, pushing the borders of what it can be. We work towards building new worlds and ways of being.
