Alternative Synergy the Company (ASTC) was assembled with risk in mind: Taking artists of all ages, nationalities, backgrounds, and merging their arts to create a single vision. The company's mission is to move beyond the conventional by uniting diverse movements, cultures, and people to create a unique style of art. ASTC features the strong emotional and cultural histories of street styles with contemporary dance, while creating narrative performances of universal experiences accessible for all. Through educational programming and performances, they aim to inspire audiences and bring to the forefront art’s essential role in building community.

After the success of the first Life Symphony events supported by Brooklyn Arts Council, they are encouraged to expand the series in 2020 and formalize the educational component by hosting ten-week intensives culminating with a community performance event. The aims of the intensives are to provide opportunities for dancers to express and expand their own art forms and create new synergies through blending everyone’s unique styles and life experiences. Over the course of ten weeks, intensive students will learn the foundation of the ASTC style, including basic training and conditioning, technique, and the art of improvisation and freestyle. The intensive is also an opportunity for students to learn from each other and build connections outside their own dance circles. Each Intensive will have a theme to be developed by the students early on and will be the basis for two to three original works featuring both choreography and showcasing the freestyle talents of each dancer to be performed at the Life Symphony event.
