The pandemic of 2020-2021 has had a significant impact on older adults, and particularly on people with Alzheimer's and other dementias. Created specifically for this isolated and vulnerable population at this historic time, Acting Our Age offers Themed Art-Making Surprise Boxes to older adults with dementia living in a long-term care facility in Brooklyn. Our themed art-making Surprise Boxes are a tool for creative expression and engagement. Each box contains Storytelling and Poetry activities, Music and Movement (with access to a curated playlist), Sensory exploration and an Arts & Crafts activity. Boxes are designed for the use of a single older adult to explore with a care partner. While the Covid-19 pandemic has forced the world to change the ways in which we live, the goals of Acting Our Age remain the same. We strive to stimulate our participants' imaginations, understanding that there are no wrong answers; allow for a safe environment for art-making; and to create moments of joy!
