Pop-Up Folk is an outdoor concert and workshop series aimed at engaging a diverse audience with folk music and dance from all over the world. Pop-Up Folk 2021 will feature at least four events between January and June 2021, and will build upon the work that we did to develop this brand and programming in 2020, thanks to generous funding from the Brooklyn Arts Council. Events will take place in outdoor venues around Brooklyn which are visible and publicly accessible. We hope that this will be an opportunity to engage with demographics of folk artists who have been historically underrepresented in our programming and bridge gaps between cultural communities around Brooklyn. Porch Stomp aims to not only engage our audiences as listeners but as participants. Our goal is to present American folk music and it’s expansive roots in a way that is both accessible and inclusive. By utilizing a familiar cannon of songs and the welcoming platform of folk music, Porch Stomp aims to offer opportunities for shared growth and connection for people of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels. We hope that these events will further our mission of using music and dance as a universal connector, bringing diverse groups of people together in communication more powerful than words.
