Rohan Bhargava | Rovaco Dance Company
Rovaco Dance Company, under Artistic Director Rohan Bhargava, will hold its fifth annual Rovaco Dance Party in Fall 2023 in Brooklyn. Rovaco Dance Party is an intimate evening of dance, live music, and cultural exchange, with the intention to broaden Rovaco Dance’s community. The event will commence socially with drinks and Indian snacks in a multi-sensory, immersive experience inspired by Indian hospitality culture. Nimbu Paani will be served as a welcome beverage alongside chaat, Indian incense sticks will season the air, and a culturally auspicious red thread or “Kalava” will be tied around the wrist of every guest. The space will shift for the performances, and the evening will culminate in a DJ’d dance party for all. Performances will take place in the round to maintain intimacy for the audience, no longer up and about, yet now primed to receive a visceral, human experience, as opposed to a distant spectacle. During the DJ party we hope boundaries between audience and performer will vanish and all may move together in community. The primary goal of this event is to foster appreciation for contemporary dance, live music, and South Asian culture.
