Escuela Popular de Arte Sonoro (EPAS) is a free music program designed to address the lack of accessible arts and culture offerings for the immigrant, undocumented and Black, Indigenous youth of color in Bushwick, Brooklyn. In an effort to decolonize the way music is taught in the public school system and higher education institutions, EPAS focuses on teaching and preserving the traditional musical heritage of the countries of origin of the students or those of their parents. A few of these music traditions included; Cumbia, Bullerengue, Bomba, Plena, Soca, and Tambora as well as contemporary genres that have a politically charged background, like Hip Hop and Punk
