Cecilia Smith
Teaching Artist Cecilia Smith is one of the leading vibraphonists of Four-Mallet Technique and performs nationally and abroad. Cecilia is also an avid composer, arranger and multimedia artist. Cecilia has won many commissions and grants, including the ELIZABETH SWADOS AWARD, specifically for music teaching artists, CHAMBER MUSIC AMERICA and the SU CASA Grant. Cecilia is a teaching artist for a number of non-profit arts organizations and human service agencies throughout NYC. As a Jazz artist Cecilia has recorded or performed with several renown artists including: Gary Bartz, Greg Osby, Cassandra Wilson, Milt Hinton, Randy Weston, Marianne McPartland (Piano Jazz NPR), Donald Harrison, Billy Pierce, Mulgrew Miller, Cecil Bridgewater and others. She has recorded 6 internationally and nationally released recordings. She is the Artistic Director of the MARY LOU WILLIAMS RESURGENCE PROJECT (MLWRP) which has been presented throughout the U.S. including the KENNEDY CENTER; Cecilia has also received two NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS (NEA) Awards: AMERICAN MASTERPIECE AWARD and THE BIG READ AWARD. Cecilia received a JOYCE AWARD COMMISSION for her multimedia work was has been featured in a TEDx TALK. This work includes an education component specifically geared to challenged teenagers. Cecilia is a graduate and formal faculty member of Berklee College of Music. She currently lives in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn, NY.
