Working in the creative aging field influences my work and is reflective in the professional road that I have led. Nature and the community are important components of the narrative as an artist. It is a fascinating way of life and one that flows so naturally from always having a connection to elders and mentors throughout life.
The History of South Brooklyn's Ocean Communities, including Coney Island, Sheepshead Bay, Manhattan Beach, Bay Ridge etc. will be visually explored through the creation of mixed media art projects (clay, paint, collage, shells, sea glass). The projects will be like a visual journal as the art created will relate to the Elders personal journeys in the community of South Brooklyn. References to the old Luna Park, Steeplechase Park and Dreamland as well as images along the shore will be illustrated. There will be open discussions amongst the participants to take a trip down memory lane.
