Viktoriya Basina
I have been making art for as long as I can remember. I was born in USSR but was fortunate to live, study, work, and create in different countries all over the world. I received my MFA in Painting and Arts in Architecture in 2009 from Moscow State Fine Arts Academy. Since then I worked as a painter, muralist, and mosaics artist on different commissioned private and public arts projects. I also worked as a teaching artist on mural and mosaics projects with socially underrepresented populations and with the older adults. In 2017 I arrived to Brooklyn and called it home. I have a studio arts practice, work as a scenic artist on TV and Film projects, and create public art. I also enjoy working on community involved art projects and sharing my art-making knowledge with a diverse audience. I am a single mother to a 10-year old girl, an aspiring veterinarian.
Mosaics is an exciting art form suitable and equally engaging for those with fine art interest and experience as well as for beginners. The process of creating mosaics consists of breaking and arranging colorful tiles and is very soothing and meditational. The outcome is a beautiful and durable piece of art that can be hung on a wall or serve as a functional piece such as a coaster, picture frame, etc. I propose a program in which participants can discover the engaging world of mosaics, create a memorable work of art or a perfect gift for their loved ones.
